BIO: Sara Smith is a transdisciplinary choreographer and librarian. Sara creates speculative-documentary performances and other works that explore interconnection and the poetics and politics of embodied and archival research. Their working process is rooted in physical practices of micro-attention and transformation.
Sara has collaborated and learned with many other artists, most regularly with writer and interdisciplinary artist Karinne Keithley Syers and visual artist Gina Siepel (Sara’s life partner). Sara's performances and other works have been seen and heard at venues throughout the U.S., including Amherst College, A.P.E. Gallery, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, The Chocolate Factory, Danspace Project, Experiments in Cinema, Green Street Studios, HERE Arts Center, Hollins University, Joyce SoHo, LaMaMa, Mildred's Lane, Movement Gallery, San Francisco International Film Festival, School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, SPACE Gallery, Ur, and Vermont Performance Lab, among others. Sara has a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, where they studied choreographic practice with Sara Rudner and functional anatomy with Peggy Gould.
