Artist Statement:"I paint to challenge the viewer's perception of what is real.”

My current work explores the tension between realism and abstraction through layers of paint application and monochromatic tones. I am particularly struck by the relationship between photography and painting and how it resonates now within the currency of images found through the media. My recent paintings are inspired by images of uprisings and catastrophes seen in the news taking place both in the US and in India. These two opposite ends of the world become parallel universes, mirroring each other in a moment of spectacle.
